NSW Sommelier's Wine List Awards
Become a NSW Wine Star!
NSW Wine is thrilled to host the NSW SOMMELIER’S WINE LIST AWARDS.
These awards are dedicated to supporting and rewarding restaurants, wine bars and hotels in Sydney and regional NSW that are true #NSWWineStars - offering their customers a great wine experience and a range of delicious local wines that showcase the quality and diversity of wines being produced in our state.
We are excited to be involved in a project that enables us to engage with our state’s most driven and forward-thinking restaurants and also support the smaller venues that have always displayed a passion for the home-grown wines of NSW.
Venues that enter the awards will be judged by the NSWWIA and 3 experienced, independent judges. In 2021 these judges were:
Mark Baulderstone, MD Riedel Spiegelau Nachtmann Australia - Mark’s work with some of the world’s finest wine glasses and a diverse range of restaurants gives him great insight into the ideal wine experience.
Dane Richards, GM and Head of Reviewing Australia for Gault&Millau - Dane has judged food and wine at all levels for a diversity of organisations, with his honest and objective assessments valued by both competitors and panels alike.
Ned Goodwin, Master of Wine - Ned is a dux of the Len Evans Tutorial, Japan’s first Master of Wine, educator, consultant, judge, critic and a highly regarded motivational speaker and presenter. He brings a wealth of wine knowledge to the team.
The judges assess the wine lists using criteria including wine list content, presentation, educational content, selection, food and wine matching, service and NSW wine representation.
Sommeliers and Wine Managers will be in the running to win the title of ‘NSW Sommelier’s Wine List of the Year’ in one of six different categories:
Sydney small venue
Sydney mid/large venue
Regional NSW small venue
Regional NSW mid/large venue
Sydney Hotel accommodation venue
Regional NSW Hotel accommodation venue.
An overall winner will be chosen from these 6 categories.
Along with a stunning trophy and promotional opportunities, some great prizes are also up for grabs, including automatic entry into Australia's Wine List of the Year Awards, exclusive food and wine trips to some of NSW's best wine regions, invaluable advice on and creation of the right digital systems and design for your business, some of Australia's best wine logistic solutions and some cutting edge wine service equipment and premium wine glasses (individually selected for your venue).
